St. Simons Islands Pier Village Has Fun For The Entire Family

Georgia kids are going to be released from school for summer break soon which means that families are planning summer vacations.
Atlantans are lucky to be within driving distance of many popular vacation destinations including Orlando and Savannah but some may not know about St. Simons Island.  The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons Island will entertain everyone in your family.

While visiting The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons Island earlier this week I took a mini-island trolley tour hosted by Cap Fendig, life long resident of St. Simons. During the tour I learned about St. Simons Pier Village.  Pier Village is a hidden treasure that families can expect to spend at least half a day if not a full day, enjoying.  There are sixteen eateries and restaurants to recharge in after shopping or visiting the recreational park.

Have an ocean view picnic in oak shaded Neptune Park. Your children can work up an appetite at the children’s playground or engage in spirited competition playing miniature golf. You’ll find the miniature golf course at the Village Pier, next to the light house. Relax on a sea side bench or go beachcombing for whelks and horse shoe crabs at low tide.  Stroll on the St. Simon Island Fishing Pier. Observe the catch of fisherman, crabbers and shrimpers. Two other popular fishing piers are the Gascoigne Bluff Pier, close to the causeway and the Jekyll Island Pier on the north end of the island. Float-fishing and bottom fishing have had good results.

St. Simons Pier Village features over twenty-five shops, including art and pottery, jewelry, books, collectibles, clothing and fishing equipment. The children may balk at shopping but not if you take them to Just 4 Funn Toys. They have modern toys for all ages and toys that parents and grandparents played with!  The large inventories of modern toys include Tolo, Play Mobil and Breyer. Now that the child has been awakened in everyone venture to St. Simons Sweets for anything made of chocolate or covered in chocolate. What’s better than chocolate? Chocolate and ice cream, cookies and sodas all at St. Simon Sweets.Explore the rest of St. Simon Island after a fun packed time at St. Simons Pier Village on a Lighthouse Trolley Tour. Cap Fendig’s Lighthouse Trolleys take St. Simons visitors on adventurers throughout the island. Stop and explore historical, shopping, and sight-seeing destinations and get back on. The fun continues! The trolley routes travel by popular shops and restaurants. Featured attractions such as the St. Simon Lighthouse and Museum, Maritime Center and many beaches are on the route.

St. Simons coastal waters teem with bird and marine life.  Captain Cap Fendig knows where to find the pods of bottle nosed dolphins, bird nesting areas, alligator hang outs and even sharks. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
